I've spent the better part of a day hassling with Windows 8, and I still don't find anything I like about it.
Now, that's unusual. I've installed and I run dozens of OSes. From ancient to current, I've always found something that's useful, or interesting about an OS. Ubuntu really does have a smooth system installation. Mac was up & running in 15 minutes.
But not Windows 8.
In fact I don't think I've managed to register the thing, even now.
I hate subscription OSes.
It pops up that stupid "Don't react to anything" "desktop" of primary-colored blocks. I hate that. WTF is it useful for? It's like a wacko overview screen gone wild, where -- again -- you can't do anything.
And the !@$%^Internet Explorer. Where are the options? I hate hidden features.
Worse, I hate inadvertently-activated features. And there must be dozens of them in here. I inadvertently pop back to the primary-colors screen every so often. Then I curse Microsoft, and try to navigate back to the regular Desktop.
Where's "My Computer"?
I hate this thing.
How do I get to Control Panel?
I hate this thing.
I'm a developer. How in the world do you install on this thing?
I hate this thing.
Crap, every OEM system has all this crap pre-installed constantly prompting me to sign up, register. How do I stop it? Where in Windows madness do they make it hard for me to access my computer?
I hate this thing.
